The RCA Mark II Sound Synthesizer, or "Victor," introduced in 1957 at the Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center, was the first programmable electronic synthesizer. Created by RCA engineers Harry Olson and Herbert Belar, it expanded on the Mark I with punch-card control of pitch, timbre, envelope, and sequencing. Used by composers like Milton Babbitt and Vladimir Ussachevsky, its vast musical capabilities made it a landmark in electronic music history, paving the way for future synthesizers.
